ECO TEAM

Welcome to Marybank’s Eco Committe Page! This is the place to find out all about what is happening in our bid to be awarded ‘Green Flag’ status. The committe hope to keep this page regularly updated!

26.2.09

We have recently visited Dingwall Academy to talk to members of their Eco Committe. They were holding a Fair Trade fayre, where we bought scrummy yummy cakes and recieved free Fair Trade hot drinks and sugar. We talked about what we have been doing for the school and what we are hoping to do. Mr Harris said he would talk at their assembly about people vandilising our school grounds. The afternoon was highly successful (especially the cakes!).

  1. Miss Bate has applied on behalf of the committee for a £50 grant from action earth. It arrived on Friday with stickers, certificates and wild flower seeds. In 2 weeks time we are going to have an eco action day . Miss Bate has also applied to get some plants that encourage insects. Leonie and Gregor will contact the press.

  2. We have contacted Abernethy school and Cannoch school who both have green flags. We will take people who haven’t gone. Cannoch : Kyra, Ewan, Rhuie and Gregor. Abernethy: Iain, Sam, Leonie and Grace. We’re going to look at what they have done to reduce litter, energy and increase bio diversity.

  3. New litter rota. Iain and Rhuie will make it. Gregor and Ewan will do the meter reading.

  4. When we visited Dingwall Academy they had a Fair Trade food stall. We would like to be a Fair Trade school. We need to register. The P4-7 class will manage it. Visit or invite owner of Green Kite.

  5. We are registered as a breathing places school. We have found out how to make a plastic bottle green house. Kyra and Sam will post it on the blog and make posters.

  6. We will have a kitchen garden and ask local people for help.

  7. We need to have an eco code. We will look at it next week.

  8. We need a bird feeder rota. Grace will make the rota.

  9. Leonie, Gregor, Ewan, Iain and Rhuie will put the leaf litter in the compost bins.

  10. We will meet next Friday morning. 9:45 – 10:45.
